My parents got a hammock and they set it up on the deck and I really like reading in it, even if I do get a little sea-sick when it sways in the wind.

typical vague update
I’ve had a really good couple of days.
I've never felt more like James Blunt than I do...
But hey, at least that means I’m kind of related to John Krasinsky!
I'm ready for something life-giving.
So good.
Listen to this.

That’s what Dieu-Merci wrote to me when I told him my news: I am now officially employed by Grand Rapids Public Schools! This is a wonderful, powerful accomplishment for me.

Quatrains
When I’m not subbing, I volunteer at Union with my old class. On Tuesday I went in and my 9th graders were beginning their poetry unit. They wrote a quatrain for their first sonnet. My two ESL students (from Congo…I’m sure I’ve talked about them before) wrote these. I am happy to share them.

I love weddings, kittens, dancing, pizza, baptism and Reeds Lake. Especially when they all come together in one awesome weekend.
I had a boy sing "Who Says" by Selena Gomez to me...
This is really just a self-reflection.
Yesterday I saw the movie Bridesmaids. It was hilarious (go see it) but I immediately related to Kristen Wiig’s loser life. I really felt like I was watching a movie about me and Britta in the future, which sucked at first…but then I really enjoyed laughing at “myself.”
I think it’s amazing when a stranger tells you something about yourself that you hadn’t...
I’m so happy that I passed them certification tests

I’m not so happy to feel stuck between homes

In conclusion, it’s hot outside and I miss my bike.

Things are different in a good way.

Why I'm Staying
Student: Mees, what from you? You miss TWO DAYS. I meest you.
Me: I'm sorry, I had meetings at other high schools!
Student: What from? Are they taking you away?
Thank you
to everyone who made this weekend so wonderful. I have amazing friends!
An even bigger thank you to all of you who have showed your support to the Union High School family that lost everything in a fire over Spring Break and so desperately needs your help. If you haven’t helped out yet and still want to do something, I am still collecting clothing and household items, food that needs...
Why I shouldn't be afraid of Abraham Lincoln:...
Student: You know who I wish was still president?
Me: Who?
Student: Llllincoln.
Me: Lincoln, huh? Why's that?
Student: He was just a really good guy.
Me: Yeah he was, but don't you think he's kinda scary lookin?
Student: No, not really.
Me: Oh, I think he is! He scares me.
Student: You know, sometimes, nice people can look funny. And not so nice people can look really good.
Me: I guess what you're saying is that I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, right?
Student: Right. Hey, you know what my favorite kind of Indian food is?

clothing christmas
so maintenance was here today and fixed my dresser. turns out i had a bunch of clothes (and a knitting needle) keeping my pants drawer from shutting. but they fixed it and i found all these old clothes i hadn’t seen since last summer. even a pair of sweatpants. wow! i wonder how many times maintenance has had to do that for some girl around here. all in a day’s work, i suppose.
Today is beautiful.
I just want my hair to grow so I can feel pretty.
